Set the Doomsday Clock to 1946

Are we repeating the mistakes that led to the worst defeat for American arms in Korea in 1950?  Could be.  T.R. Fehrenbach in 'This Kind of War' wrote

Even a rich society cannot afford nuclear bombs, supercarriers, foreign aid, five million new cars a years, long-range bombers, the highest standard of living in the world, and a million new rifles.

Admittedly, somewhere you have to cut and choose.

Perhaps this time around the colonels and generals will keep the training realistic and the esprit-de-corps fixed at a high level.

Our guys may have to throw rocks at the Bad Guys but they'll spit on them while they do so.  And they won't die like starlings in the prison camps.
