Existing coal-burning power plants have miles of plumbing. So do nuclear plants. Rip out the bits that burn coal, bury a small nuke in the coal yard and presto: nuclear power plant built on the cheap.
I am not technical enough to know what (if anything) is wrong with this. I suspect a lot of politics and legal foolishness would doom this project before it would get off the ground.
If we're serious about reducing CO2 in the atmosphere, converting existing fossil fuel burning plants to nuclear would be a good place to start.
